It has been over 1,300 years since the last inhabitants abandoned this building. The walls have begun to re-emerge from the tropical forest floor as archaeologist begin the process of excavation and restoration.

This photo was taken by a Yashica Electro 35CC and COLOR-YASHINON DX 1:1.8 f=35mm lens with a Pro 52mm (UV) Japan filter using a Kodak Ektachrome slide, the positive transparency scanned by an HP Scanjet G4050 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

I saw a documentary about it in Nat Geo or in Odisseia channels. Guess now it is spoiled by mass tourism, you are lucky to have been there before.

Scott Holcomb replied to Xata:

I spent almost three weeks hammock camping at the entrance to Tikal in 1975, exploring the extensive ruins daily. I returned 30 years later with my family. It was "overrun" by tourists but still fascinating.
