Ancient and new 2

The Tower of London, is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England. The White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078, and was a resented symbol of oppression, inflicted upon London by the new ruling elite.

The Shard is an 87-storey skyscraper in London that forms part of the London Bridge Quarter development. The construction began in March 2009; it was topped out on 30 March 2012[13] and inaugurated on 5 July 2012.[14]

Standing approximately 306 metres (1,004 ft) high,[3] the Shard is currently the tallest building in the European Union.
The glass-clad pyramidal tower has 72 habitable floors, with a viewing gallery and open-air observation deck – the UK's highest – on the 72nd floor, at a height of 244.3 metres (802 ft).[3][18] It was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano.

MARVELOUS!!!!! A fine picture--love the style for your reminiscent trip back to London--and I also love the information. A shame I wasn't there with you, we'd soak up all the details together! :D Very interesting. When I was there, it was only for a full day and I was just 21. I went on a crazy 14-country tour over 28 days and whenever we were in transit, I was writing madly in my journal. I'm glad I did or I'd have forgotten everything! LOL, NOT the way to see Europe, but still, I remembered the time I was in London. I hope to have many days to visit next time around!
