Happy Fence Friday, All
Part of Radcliffe Camera and in the background, part of All Souls College, Oxford.
The Radcliffe Camera ("The Camera" from the Latin, camera, meaning 'room') It was designed by James Gibbs in a Baroque style and built in 1737-1749 to house the Radcliffe Science Library. The library's construction and maintenance was funded from the estate of John Radcliffe, a physician who left £40,000 upon his death in 1714.
From 'Oxford History' -
All Souls College was founded jointly by Henry Chichele, Archbishop of Canterbury, and King Henry VI. It was built between 1437/8 and 1443, and was the ninth Oxford college. Originally its Fellows were obliged to take Holy Orders and to engage in further studies after spending three years in the University. They were also expected to pray for the souls of the faithful departed and those killed in the French wars – hence its name.
I don't know much, if anything, about Joe Dolan. But he recorded "Lady in Blue" so I have decided to use this for 'Sight and Sound' :-) Quite a strident (forceful) recording methinks :-))
