Kea at work

Kea are comfortable around people (handouts, please). They're also inquisitive and destructive. We spotted this one in the carpark at Milford Sound, busily trying to extract the door rubber through the gap around the door. Apparently they have been known to enter cars with windows open and pick out the stitching in the upholstery, or enter and trash hikers' tents. Little wonder they're endangered!

Explored.

I like this naughty species. On several times at the zoo one of them inspected my camera bag and I had some fears about the equipment.

Beautiful captured!

Beautiful bird, though. Maybe they should have special parks for the Keas with old cars and hikers tents in them.

Haha, you caught him out:-) They obviously also like sliding down the tin roofs of hiking huts, making a hell of a noise;-)
You seem to have had the "classic" Fiordland weather...

Lol. That is such a cool capture George. I had to drive from Arthurs Pass back to Christchurch in the rain and snow with no wipers after they ate the rubbers...and then try and explain it to the car hire rep.
