Thank you, Annemarie! It is very rainy here today, but we are happy because it helps the trees begin to show that lovely early green. We are more than ready for that!

haha, Amy. I’m really hoping that’s not a real thing!

Deborah Lundbech replied to William Sutherland:

Thank you, William. Sandy was my mother’s family cat - the photo was taken by her in her twenties.

So do you only have interesting old photos, or do you just have a really great eye for choosing the best to share with us? I totally love this image!!

amylsacks replied to Deborah Lundbech:

Oh, it's pretty common these days. When a kitty is spayed or neutered the vet will remove a little of one ear tip. So observers know later on that the cat has already been fixed and doesn't need to be brought in again. Like, if you look at our local heroes The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, their symbol is a black kitty with one tipped ear.

Wow, Laura, thank you so much for these kind, encouraging words! What lovely compliments to wake up to!
It’s been interesting, and sometimes mildly stressful, to decide what to post in my “pic a day” commitment this year.
I’ve tried to keep it broad topically, good quality, possibly quirky or interesting - AND also to not overly obsess or be too perfectionist in my choices.
In terms of access - we have SO many photographs! Huge streams from both sides of the family. My mother started keeping albums at 12, Brian’s grandparents kept and took many photos, both families had many photographs of ancestors, I have kept albums since I was 10, my husband has always had a really good eye, I took a gazillion of my kids, and have collected many, many vintage photos of all kinds since I was in my teens. Oh, yes, also library patrons would bring me albums and photos they didn’t want any more!
I’ve been organizing this bounty in real life for quite a while - with probably years to go!

raingirl replied to Deborah Lundbech:

I would so love to be able to see your method of organizing all that!

My family has lots of photos. Both sides of my family had photos starting as soon as they were available. I even have some very old film clips of my dad circa 1920's. I am completely overwhelmed by them (though very very happy to have them) - I am not good at organizing, or at keep the same organizational style over time. Even the photos are in multiple places around my house. Yikes!!

Deborah Lundbech replied to amylsacks:

I’m definitely all for spaying/neutering - just a bit taken aback by the clipping. I haven’t heard of that marking method before.

Deborah Lundbech replied to raingirl:

Stop by and I’ll give you tutorial. : D
Kidding - I’ve got “miles to go before I sleep” believe me, but I am slowly seeing it shape up into something manageable!

amylsacks replied to Deborah Lundbech:

I think in earlierdays, they would notch the ear instead of tipping. But I bet with street cats, their ears might already be beat up, or frostbitten if they live outside in a very cold climate. So the notch would be hard to detect.
