Märta Petrini by Dahllöf
Märta Petrini (1866-1932); Swedish soprano.
In Paris she was a pupil of the singing teachers Bax and (Mathilde) Marchesi. In 1890 she made her debut at Stockholm as Lakmé in the eponymous opera by Leo Delibes, which was also the Swedish première of this opera. In the following years she performed regularly at the Stockholm Royal Opera. From 1900/04 she was engaged in Germany at the Opera Houses of Leipzig and Düsseldorf. She made guest appearances at Stuttgart, Dresden, Rome and St. Petersburg. Later she turned to theosophical studies and philosophy of Indian Hinduism. She emigrated to India and lived there until 1919, but then again returned to her Swedish homeland. In 1909 her beautifully trained coloratura soprano was recorded in Germany by HMV.
