Smoky sunrise (Larchmont, New York)—July 17, 2026

Wildfire smoke transformed the rising sun into a muted disc suspended behind a dense atmospheric veil. Its usual brilliance was subdued, filtered through layers of drifting particulate matter that softened the horizon and stained the morning light with tones of amber, rust, and ash.

This photo captures a moment of unsettling beauty. The sun remains visible, yet distant and diminished, its radiance constrained by smoke carried far from the fires that produced it.
