HFF-Rattlesnake Bridge (DSC3585)

I hope this is close enough to be a fence. It's of the interior of a bicycle/pedestrian bridge, called "Rattlesnake Bridge," over a major street leading into downtown Tucson, Arizona. On the outside, it looks like a rattlesnake. On the day I was there, I waited for about 30 minutes, hoping to include a bicycle or pedestrian in the photo, but nobody came by. It was built in 2002 and is iconic because it is so visible when driving below, but it is rarely used as a bridge.

Thank you. Now an artistic component is often required in public road projects. That wasn't true when the bridge was built. The effort, even when not wholly successful, is worth it.

What a pity that this bridge remains empty, I really wonder how pedestrians and cyclists go to downtown - or are there only car drivers ?;-) HFF Tony.

TonyF* replied to Christa1004:

There are other ways for cyclists and pedestrians to get downtown, including areas served by the bridge. The bridge is better art than infrastructure. Nevertheless much of downtown is not bicycle friendly.

Lovely perspective and an excellent capture Tony. I love the name of the bridge and anyone walking along her would actually be walking in the belly of the rattlesnake.
