Der Blutmilchpilz (Lycogala epidendrum) am Baumstamm :)) The wolf's-milk slime mold (Lycogala epidendrum) on a tree trunk :)) Le lycogale du bois (Lycogala epidendrum) sur un tronc d'arbre :))
This organism belongs to the slime molds. On dead wood, it forms small, spherical to cushion-shaped fruiting bodies, measuring approximately 3 to 15 mm in diameter. In this young stage, they are a striking orange, salmon-pink, or bright red. If the young fruiting bodies are pierced, a viscous, pink-to-blood-red fluid oozes out—hence the common name "wolf's-milk slime" (literally "blood-milk fungus" in German). As they mature, the spheres change color, shifting through gray-brown to dark brown or black. The outer membrane becomes dry and brittle, eventually releasing a fine, silvery-gray to brown spore powder. While not poisonous, this slime mold is not considered edible and has no culinary value whatsoever.
Pip1–7: Close-up images of the organism
