Sie werden ca 7–10 mm lang,sie hat einen schwarzer Kopf und schwarzer Rückenbereich. Der Hinterleib sowie große Teile des Thorax sind leuchtend gelb bis rotgelb gefärbt.Ihre Beine sind gelb mit charakteristischen schwarzen Ringen an den Tarsen und Tibienenden. Die Vorderflügel besitzen einen dunklen Vorderrand und ein schwarzes Flügelmal. Wie alle Pflanzenwespen haben sie keinen Giftstachel und können Menschen nicht stechen. Die ausgewachsenen Wespen fliegen von etwa April/Mai bis August. Sie ernähren sich von Nektar und Pollen (häufig auf Doldenblütlern zu finden).Weibchen nutzen ihren Säge- bzw. Legebohrer, um Längsschlitze in junge Rosentriebe zu ritzen und dort Eier in Reihen abzulegen.Pro Jahr werden meist 2 bis 3 Generationen gebildet.

They reach a length of approximately 7–10 mm and have a black head and back. The abdomen and large parts of the thorax are bright yellow to reddish-yellow. Their legs are yellow, featuring characteristic black rings on the tarsi and the tips of the tibiae. The forewings have a dark leading edge and a black stigma. Like all sawflies, they lack a venomous stinger and cannot sting humans. The adult wasps are active from roughly April/May through August. They feed on nectar and pollen (often found on plants in the carrot family, or Apiaceae). Females use their saw-like ovipositor to cut longitudinal slits into young rose shoots and deposit their eggs there in rows. Typically, two to three generations are produced per year.

Elles mesurent environ 7 à 10 mm de long ; leur tête et la partie dorsale sont noires. L'abdomen ainsi qu'une grande partie du thorax sont d'une couleur allant du jaune vif au jaune rougeâtre. Leurs pattes sont jaunes, avec des anneaux noirs caractéristiques sur les tarses et à l'extrémité des tibias. Les ailes antérieures présentent un bord d'attaque sombre et un stigma noir. Comme toutes les tenthrèdes, elles ne possèdent pas de dard venimeux et ne peuvent pas piquer l'homme. Les adultes volent d'avril-mai environ jusqu'en août. Ils se nourrissent de nectar et de pollen (on les trouve souvent sur des ombellifères). Les femelles utilisent leur tarière en forme de scie pour inciser longitudinalement les jeunes pousses de rosiers et y déposer leurs œufs en rangées. On compte généralement deux à trois générations par an.
