The last light streams in laterally and lights up the top of a hedge fence. This may look like autumn, but it's actually spring: the new leaves in this particular plant are red, pink or pale gold until they can synthetize enough chlorophyl to turn green (see a close up in the PIP). The grey background is the back of a climbing crag facility in the adjacent lot.
