falling apart but still charming

This week I found several interesting fences I wanted to share with you, so I am using up my full allotment of 3 HFFs per week :)))

The old gazebo in the garden of Piazza Demidoff seems to be in such serious disrepair to require fencing off and danger signs. I liked the colors and the light on the terrace garden in the background.

HFF!!!

Thank you, George. This piazza is very well known because it was the setting of a major part of the film "Amici miei". It is really too bad that this old gazebo had been allowed to fall apart.

Hope you had a nice Sunday!

It makes me think to these old advertising columns we call "colonne Morris" in French. HFF Annalia.

Annalia S. replied to Christa1004:

Thank you for your comment, Christa. You are right, it does look a little like them! And perhaps it might have been used as one in the past, though I seem to remember when I first came to Florence (more years ago than I care to confess ...) it was a small newspaper stand. Looking it up, though, I only find references to a "little house" used to recover gardening tools.

Thank you, Carol. I hope the city gets it restored. It is part of the charm of this piazza.

Hope you are having a nice Sunday!

Thank you! Yes, I hope the city will get it restored. It is one of the "landmarks" of this charming square that is very well known because it's where part of the movie "Amici miei" was set.

Hope you had a nice weekend!

I'm pleased that you said what it is, I thought an old air vent from a subway, or a public toilet !!

Annalia S. replied to Peter Castell:

I think it was originally built to keep gardening tools and I think I remember it being used as a small newspaper stand many years ago. Many old gazebos in the city parks have been restored and put to use (there's one just a couple of blocks down that has been turned into a small coffee/sandwich/beverages stand for park visitors, for example), but this one is so small, it's hard to picture what use it could be put to nowadays. Probably that's why its being allowed to just fall apart ... :(
Hope you are having a good Sunday.
