THE BOOKS

So is it a book,
this, so to speak?, a murmur,
a face turned into
something dark that doesn't exist yet
that if an innocent hand
suddenly touches
opens helplessly
as a mouth
talking with our voice?
Is this a book
this kind of heart (our heart)
saying "I" between us and us?

///

É então isto um livro,
este, como dizer?, murmúrio,
este rosto virado para dentro de
alguma coisa escura que ainda não existe
que, se uma mão subitamente
inocente a toca,
se abre desamparadamente como uma boca
falando com a nossa voz?
É isto um livro,
esta espécie de coração (o nosso coração)
dizendo "eu" entre nós e nós?

Nice poem, nice translation. My only suggestion would be:

So, is it a book,
this, so to speak, a murmur,
a face turned into,

I think that reads better without altering the sense. Forgive me if I am treading on your toes!

Armando Taborda replied to Steve Bucknell:

I did the translation as that to keep the English musicality. You know, I am also a poet, so far the wording music is a key point to keep the poem flow.

Anyway I take your suggestion as good, Steve!
