HFF,. walking the 'Stanage edge'
Walking the 'Stanage edge' in early May,. or simply 'Stanage' ,.from "stone edge" a gritstone escarpment in the Peak District. Areas were quarried in the past to produce grindstones, and some can still be seen on the hillside—carved, but never removed. A paved packhorse road ran along the top of the edge, and remains of it can be seen. This is a most beautiful walk of which one never tires of revisiting.
It is not evident from the photo that there is a scary sheer drop from where the fence ends.
