On Wednesday 07 September 2011, a DB Schenker Rail Class 60 locomotive was named The Spirit of Tom Kendell during a private ceremony at Knottingley depot.
The naming was held in remembrance of Tom Kendell, a young and enthusiast engineer at the company who lost his life in an accident.
The name was unveiled in front of friends and family members of Tom after short speeches by John Langton, Head of Risk Management for DB Schenker Rail, and Tom’s mother, Andrea Kendell.
The name was unveiled by Tom’s father, Mark Kendell.
The locomotive has also had the logo of DB Schenker Rail’s safety campaign for employees, called Switch on to Safety, applied to it.

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic visit and kind words. This was an unusually hot day, which had brought quite a few people out to this gala event. I have been to this railway a few times, including one visit with Steve, and have tried many compositions, but this one was almost an afterthought. I am very happy that you like it!!
Best Wishes
Peter

I was actually waiting for the shot hyperlinked above, but on reflection (and on the advice of Füsun) this view through the trees was too good to waste!
