Trolltunga

Trolltunga (Troll's Tongue) is a tongue-shaped outcrop that hangs nearly 2000 feet above the lake, Ringedalsvatnet. It is a popular hiking destination but is at the end of a rather difficult hiking trail, 13-16 miles with as much as 4000 feet of elevation gain depending on one's starting point. When we hiked here, part of our Norway trip, we found the trail and Trolltunga itself very busy. There was a long line of people waiting to have their photo taken out on the rock. We did not go out on the rock, but that was due to none of us being comfortable with heights such as this. We watched others, had our lunch and then hiked back.

I wouldn't really like to stand here, but the view is spectacular, and I understand the Norwegian, having learned some when we lived there, so the PiP is meaningful. ;-))

My favourite phrase was. 'Jeg har det paa tunge'. It's on tip of my tongue. A useful phrase now that I am in my dotage.

Wir waren vor vielen Jahren auch dort - und haben uns die anstrengende Wanderung gar nicht erst getraut.
