Carrickfergus Castle and William III

Carrickfergus Castle was built by the Norman knight, John de Courcy, in 1177. It stands on the north shore of Belfast and is part of the town of Carrickfergus. It was still in use as a garrison and air-raid shelter during Word War II, but is now a tourist attraction. The statue of William III which stands outside the castle commemorates his landing there in 1690.
