This is a traditional fishing method that uses a horizontal fishing net set from a fishing boat, a jetty or a fishing hut on stilts. Fishing huts on stilts along the shore, designed to cope with tidal changes, began to appear on the French Atlantic coast from the 19th century onwards, eventually becoming one of its defining features.

Die an die Gezeiten angepassten Pfahlhütten am Ufer verbreiteten sich ab dem 19. Jh. an der französischen Atlantikküste und wurden zu einem ihrer Wahrzeichen.
