Herbs garden birds: Nuthatch
Until a couple of years ago I had never seen these in our garden. Last year they began to appear and took a particular liking to our sunflower seeds. We sometimes saw two or three together. After we withdrew the feeders in late spring, in accordance with our RSPB guideline about feeding, they completely disappeared along with most of our other garden birds. We re-introduced the feeders just a week ago and then we saw again our first revisit of these wonderful birds. After realising that I had no photos of one, I took to rectifying that.
The nuthatches constitute a genus, Sitta, of small passerine birds belonging to the family Sittidae. Characterised by large heads, short tails, and powerful bills and feet, nuthatches advertise their territory using loud, simple songs. Most species exhibit grey or bluish upper parts and a black eye stripe.
Enjoy the day.
