Paddling over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

As we see here, it is possible to float and walk over the aquaduct. It must be quite a thrill paddling along that side as the drop down was pretty scary. A guide was taking this group over and I would think he had given many warnings and instructions of how to behave here, especially no standing up or trying to pull oneself up onto the edge. Even for the walkers, when passing other people one had to be careful you did not fall into the canal.
The PiP shows telephoto view from this side, at the start/finish of the aqueduct with the much more usual narrow canal boat crossing.

This is a great image Herb I'd love to go across that aqueduct walking or in a canoe I see all the canoes are on the side they can look down.
Have a great day.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Yes a good walk over that and not for everyone I know. yes the view for them from there would have been something besides they generally used that top edge to drag the canoe/Kayak along.

Glad you liked it. Cheers. Herb

Great perspective! I would have too scared to pass the aqueduct....

Herb Riddle replied to Gudrun:

Many people could not walk along here or if in one of those narrow boats would have gone inside and closed the curtains. We enjoyed it though.

A lovely candid shot captured from a great perspective Herb. The kayakers seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. I note the weather was kind to them as well. Doing the trip in the wind/rain would have been quite unpleasant.

A lovely shot in the PiP as well..!!

Yes the weather had improved a lot later on that day. A great adventure here for kayakers and walkers alike. Glad you liked it.

They don't paddle; they pull themselves forward along the edge :)

Herb Riddle replied to Jean-Paul:

Yes they did but some did paddle. A lot of fun, no doubt at all and i suspect quite expensive to do to.
