St Marys the Virgin church, Happisburgh

A look inside this very wonderful old church dating back in history to the Domesday Book. The Norman church on this site was replaced in the 14th century and this is what we see here. The original wooden roof was destroyed by fire in a lightning strike before restoration in 1864. The churchyard contains a mass grave for the victims of the HMS Invincible that ran aground on the sandbanks here in 1801 with 119 sailors.
