Pendragon Castle

Our visit to the town of Kirby Stephen allows us to visit this ancient monument just a few miles away. Described as a 12th century Norman keep with a 14 century garderobe turret. We had a quick explore here but not much to see really.
See PiP for front view.

Pendragon Castle (Cumbria, England)
• A ruined medieval castle in Mallerstang Dale, near Kirkby Stephen.
• Tradition links it with Uther Pendragon, legendary father of King Arthur, though there’s no real historical evidence.
• Probably built in the 12th century by Hugh de Morville.
• Later owned by Lady Anne Clifford in the 17th century, who restored it briefly before it fell into ruin again.
• Today, it’s a romantic ruin with thick walls and some surviving stonework. (ChatGPT)

Not that much left Herb.........but what there is, is still quite impressive looking. The textures, shapes and colours in the stonework are beautiful, especially when viewed large.

Very well composed and taken sir!

A lovely PiP too, which I like for the same reasons.

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

You are tight Keith, not much here really but a blast of history to make us think. My first thoughts was King Arthur led but I did know already about Lady Anne Clifford who had several castles in this area including Appleby Castle. Glad you liked this and the front view too.

Cheers. Herb
