Vienna: The Hofburg

No visit to Vienna is complete without taking a look at its famous buildings. Here we see the Hofburg or should I say a part of it.

"The Hofburg is the former principal imperial palace of the Habsburg dynasty in Austria. Located in the center of Vienna, it was built in the 13th century by Ottokar II of Bohemia and expanded several times afterwards. It also served as the imperial winter residence, as Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence." Wikipedia

PiP: The Prince Eugene Monument: The main monument to this military genius, who served three Habsburg emperors, sits on Heldenplatz square. It is a bronze equestrian statue on a giant plinth .

A wonderful exploration walk around Vienna for us Gordon. The other side of the building was just as impressive but quite different. Glad it brought back memories.

Such magnificent architecture..............I really like all the arched windows and the colonnade on the next level. The tower is most impressive with some splendid statues on the top (best viewed large).

The statue in the PiP is also very impressive!

Both photos very well captured, in superb detail Herb !

The Palace Square in St. Petersburg, the Plaza de Espana in Sevilla, ... and this place here, they all looks very similar and give the impression of 'grandezza', as the Italian says.
