Lyme house banister

The main stairway of this majestic house has an impressive wooden banister and balcony, a common sight is such houses in those Edwardian days. The walls here are covered in oil paintings, featuring most of the former inhabitants of the house. The house now belongs to the National Trust, hence our free roam tour but there were many members of staff here to help us to get to know this house better.
See the PiP for the full house.

Very stylish banisters! It must have taken quite a few domestics to keep all this clean and free of dust;-)

Herb Riddle replied to Gudrun:

Thanks for this Gudrun. Yes it would have taken some effort by a few domestics as you say. In fact it might be a trick of the light but the inside ledges here look as if they are still dusty :)

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

That's what they all say Toz! Knowing you, I am sure that it is perfectly true. In actual fact I too had home-made lathe turned spindles on our hard-wood staircase in my old house (not by me though). No such thing in my modern one. Glad you liked this one.

A beautifully sharp and detailed interior shot Herb...........captured in lovely light and warm colours. The ornate balcony and bannister looks splendid! Great composition too.

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Not one of my usual pictures here but I did like this capture. The diagonal of the banister suited this months CWP too, so here it is. Glad you enjoyed it bathed in this light. Not looking too bad for a 4000 ISO shot.
