Eilean Donan Castle

As we are staying not too far from here it gives us an opportunity to get some updated photos in somewhat better weather than the last time I saw it (pip). I took a few snaps but I liked this one against the mountains perhaps the best

"One of Scotland's most iconic and most recognisable castles set in the majestic NW highlands. The island's original castle was built in the thirteenth century; it became a stronghold of the Clan Mackenzie and their allies, the Clan MacRae. Between 1919 and 1932, the castle was rebuilt. The restoration included the construction of an arched bridge to give easier access to the island."

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Thanks Gordon. Great that you have liked this enough for a star. I have just had a re-cap of yours and I too have some from that other side (now adjacent to a massive carpark). Not as good as yours I think but not bad and I might post that later too.

Herb Riddle replied to Diana Australis:

Thanks Diana. Like Toz's photo yours is from the other side too and is very nice indeed in that low tide and light. Most happy that you enjoyed this one from me.

Hi Herb
A wonderful and interesting picture, which I like very much!
Very nice composition.
I must dig out my old pictures of this castle. We didn't go there this time as it was cold, grey and raining, so no chance of anything worthwhile..
Best Wishes, (slightly late) HFF, a nice week ahead, and stay safe!!

Herb Riddle replied to Peter_Private_Box:

Glad you liked this castle capture Peter. Who has not taken its photo as they whizzed by. As you say here, an awful lot of grey and rain to contend with though. With our week we had intended to spend a half day here but the weather dictated. Even then we had heavy rain just after getting to the other side for photos. However this gave us an excuse for a coffee in the big café there. I look forward to seeing your old photos of the same thing.

Keep well. Herb
