A night view of the Museum

One of the exhibits you are greeted with when you enter the main gallery. Lone sailor, Jon Sanders, never set foot on land, never had another person onboard and survived solely on the three and half tonnes of provisions taken onboard when he departed Fremantle. Sanders’ only contact with the outside world was via electronic communication and a couple of parcels of mail thrown to him from another vessel. Even his wet gear that he used on the voyage became part of the display the boat was left in the state it sailed back into Perth Swan River March 1988, well used......after 658 days under two full years.

Dont know about you but the thought of this would have terrified me big time and a very big achievement.

Herb it was some thing I had forgotten about. To me this a huge achievement almost super Human in fact a person so comfortable at sea makes you wonder. Not for me thats for sure. Hope your new year went well very warm here.

A big voyage and interesting notes, Steve. Definitely one to visit when next I'm over your way. Also well warranted in the "Australian Big" group.

Steve Paxton replied to Gillian Everett:

I cant think of any thing bigger that any one could do. I have to say scare the Cr@# out of me in no uncertain terms. I do remember the voyage and his last day coming into Freo harbour. I dont wear a hat but my head will be bowed in his direction for the rest of my days. Thank you I will have to buy the book as a reader of pages not digital. Certainly is a Good read.
