It is kind of like that when you see it but its well worth the read on the link. I spent a time here even got birds with pink water all around them.

What is causing this pink colour, Steve? Usually water reflects the sky. Is it an algal bloom?

Steve Paxton replied to Amelia:

from the link above

Hutt Lagoon is a pink lake, a salt lake with a red or pink hue due to the presence of the carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina, a source of ß-carotene, a food-colouring agent and source of vitamin A. The lagoon contains the world's largest microalgae production plant, a 250-hectare (620-acre) series of artificial ponds used to farm Dunaliella salina.[2]

hope this answers your question. no matter how you go its Pink. my fav shot of the trip.

Hi Steve

I like this very much, especially the dead wood in the foreground. I can almost imagine a couple of old wooden crosses (for Halloween at least!) and a big hand painted sign saying "Poison!"

Thanks for sharing this, and the great info on it too.

Best wishes, and a Good Weekend!

Steve Paxton replied to Peter_Private_Box:

Sad part is to look the part they would have to be there a few years to look like the fit in with the landscape. Quite a hot place as well I guess helps the pink. many thanks, All the best from down under.
