Im Moment kann man diesen ganz besonderen Schmetterling finden: die
Spanische Flagge, oft auch
Russischer Bär genannt,
Euplagia quadripunctaria. Der seltsame Name Spanische Flagge erklärt sich wohl aus der Färbung des Schmetterling: gelber Körper und rote Hinterflügel (siehe
www.ipernity.com/doc/cammino/47035122). Der Name Russischer Bär verweist auf die Raupe, die dicht mit großen braunen Haaren ausgestattet ist. Die tag- und nachtaktiven Nachtfalter findet man im Moment sehr häufig Nektar saugend an Gewöhnlichem Wasserdost (Eupatorium cannabium), siehe Foto. Nach der Eiablage schlüpfen Im September die nachtaktiven Raupen, die bis bis zur Überwinterung an unterschiedlichen Kräutern und Sträuchern fressen. Nach der Winterruhe ernähren sich die Raupen dann nur noch von Sträuchern (z.B. Brombeere, Haselnuss). Im Juni verpuppen sie sich. Einen Monat später schlüpft der Schmetterling. Der Bestand gilt im Moment in Deutschland als ungefährdet.

At the moment you can find this very special butterfly: the
Spanish flag (
Euplagia quadripunctaria). The strange name Spanish Flag is probably explained by the colouring of the butterfly: yellow body and red hind wings (see
www.ipernity.com/doc/cammino/47035122). The diurnal and nocturnal moths can currently be found very often sucking nectar on hemp-agrimony (Eupatorium cannabinum), see photo. After laying the eggs, the nocturnal caterpillars hatch in September and feed on various herbs and shrubs until hibernation. After hibernation, the caterpillars feed only on shrubs (e.g. blackberry, hazelnut). In June they pupate. One month later, the butterfly hatches. The population is currently not considered endangered in Germany.
