who needs a new camera .
I am always thinking of buying a new camera but I keep taking photographs I am pleased with so I just delay and put it off again.
This is good enough for me
Pentax K10D now nearing 7 years old
and old SMC Pentax-FA Zoom 28-80mm F3.5- F5.6
that I think must be approaching 20 years old

Thanks Trevor - the Camera has been great in all weathers I just know that the technology has moved on and the high ISO results on newer cameras are a temptation.

One great thing about my camera is that it really has proved to be weatherproof. I have never had to worry about keeping it dry - it's had Lake District rain pouring over it and running off it for hours and been dropped in a snowdrift locally. Hard to fault in that respect. I do wonder about a smaller, lighter options but they are unlikely to be as rugged and weatherproof.

Times change - time for a change - I'm looking for a new one now before I'm too old to enjoy it.

How much is too much to spend - that's my first question. Not expecting anyone to answer that one. If I spent £600 7 years ago - how much is equivalent now ?

Pentax K3 at £1099 new camera body - old lenses fit so it seems a logical step. Still keep the K10D though. Oh dear it seems like a lot of money. Alternative is a lightweight smaller 'quality' camera fixed lens or changeable - not sure maybe its something fixed a real landscape 35mm type lens - they look like they cost something similar.

Still not bought anything. Dark days don't help, not taking many photos at the moment. I wish I could face going to a shop and at least start to do something about this but no enthusiasm for that now.

I bought a Fujifilm XE-1 body and a 35mm F/1.4 lens in John Lewis clearance sale - the reduction in price did make the difference in whether to buy and a cash back £100 off the lens sealed it. I have enjoyed learning a new camera and especially using such a 'fast' lens in poor light and when I remember the higher ISO options with good resolutions up to ISO 1600 at least ( not tried much higher ). I like the film simulation options and had set the camera to Fuji Velvia - the slide film I used for many years and even used a couple of times last year.

The straight out of camera results have been pleasing. I have not tried any of the RAW options yet. Bracket options for ISO , film simulation as well as more usual exposure brackets seem useful.

The main thing I like is that it is small and light - I am a little confused by the focusing options and sometimes seem to be press the shutter before it has focused and get a black result? Manual focusing with a one click Auto focus check seems to be useful.

Fuji X-T1 looing like the camera I should have bought this morning - VERY WET - weatherproofing has been my one of my old Pentax K10D's greatest features.

Just a note to say in fact i did get £200 cash back for camera and lens which soften the blow when the camera proved to be faulty. - random blank photos regardless of settings a single, or 1, 2 or 3 could be blank when using bracket options. No issue with the exchange except i walked away with a black camera not silver ( none available). The Pentax K3 is now under £1000 with a 35mm lens included so having seen the benefit of a modern camera and the Quality of high ISO images it is getting tempting.

Looked at the special edition Silver K3 with battery grip and the lens for £1199 on Wex today but in the end NO

Nearly bought the K3 last week at £699 the price seems to have gone up again since. Instead I bought an XF55-200 lens for my Fujifilm X-E1 £545 - £100 cashback when it turns up - very pleased with it and its got me snapping wild birds again after some time of not trying.

WEX have K3 body at £689 with Battery grip (£145 on its own can use the normal battery or via a carraige 6 *AA) included.in the price
Willl I buy it? - the prce is acceptable but I have invested in the Fuji X series now. At that price I would have bought it a year ago now .... well i might still do it except that offer with the battery grip included has just disappeared - email said up to 20th March but significantly the battery grip is out of stock as a single item - they have sold them!

After all this time I have ordered the Pentax K-3 camera with 'free' 50mm F1.8 lens included in the price - I also had store credit to use so that made it as low cost as I am likely to get other than buying a Used camera body. What about my Fuji X-E1 that I am so pleased with - well yes I am going to use them both - sometimes both on the same day !

Guess what! - Pentax announce a K-3 II - What a surprise - not really, there was always going to be another camera. Initial impressions on the one I bought are very good.
