Dear members and friends of ipernity,

1) Interruptions to our website.
As many of you know, we have been suffering recently from slow response times to actual failure to load a page. When this happens to you, please be patient and wait a minute or two before trying to refresh the page, because the site is not offline, just overloaded.
This is due to high demand on our system from outside. This has also been causing other types of issues including interruption of daily news emails and email uploads.
The team is doing everything it can to find a permanent solution to this.
Know that this is not unique to our website. This issue is affecting many websites including large corporations and websites like Wikipedia. It may not be as obvious on those places as they have resources for professionals and extra hardware (though extra hardware is not desirable as a solution to this issue).
We ask for everyone’s patience with these errors and delays while we continue to work to minimize their impact. We apologize for the inconveniences they cause.
Technical details here.
2) Automatic promotion to administrator of a group.
This update addresses the situation where a member of a group is made administrator, without being asked, and often not wanting the role. The automatic promotion of a group member to the role of administrator was to select a moderator if available, otherwise to simply select the longest standing member. Now it is based on a combination of the member being active, being a club member, and the number of their contributions.
Such promotions happen when the current administrator's account is closed, but also when the current administrator decides to leave the group. For the latter case, the message displayed now requests that they select their replacement, rather than leaving it to the automatic process.
If you do find yourself promoted to administrator of a group, and note that it is no longer active, or feel it is not worth keeping, please use 'Help' to contact us and bring it to our attention.
3) Meetings in the real world.
Our ipernity club life does not only take place online. Ipernity members also meet in real life. They use ipernity groups to organise such meetings and to post photos of the meetings afterwards.
We would like to increase the visibility of such real life meetings for our members and therefore have compiled a list of groups about past and upcoming meetings.
Many thanks to volunteer Guido for this effort.
The last real world meeting was in Hamburg at the end of April. The next meeting will take place in Saarburg on 12-14 September. You will find more information about the programme and the registration for that meeting by following the link.
For easy access to the list by all members, an option has been added to the 'Explore' menu. This menu has been revised to make it more concise, with sub-menus, the new Real world meeting is in the Community sub-menu.
4) Save the Date - World Photography Day August 19th, 2025.

Once again ipernity will host a World Photography Day event. Falling on a Tuesday this year, you'll want to be sure to plan ahead and save the date.
Details for this year's event will be made public in July. In order to not miss any announcements or to help with the planning you may want to join the event group here: World Photography Day
Your ima team.

As this group is linked to from the main menu of our website [Explore->Images->Noteworthy], it is part of the public relations work for our club. Thanks to all contributors.
Please note: The images shown in [Explore->Images->Noteworthy] are presented in a random order. You can find the chronological order in the group "Ambassador Images".

These overloads are affecting a lot of sites, some [a lot] appear to be originating in Singapore / HongKong, according to another place I know to be under pressure from AI bots.

The team is aware that these errors continue to happen. We will notify everyone when we feel we have done everything we can. Only then would we need notices of website issues.
We ask for your patience.
