Sewing a baby seal for the new addition....
My neighbours' have a new addition to their family - a lovely little girl called Merryn. I'm so grateful for all the help they give me, that I wanted to give them something for their granddaughter.

I haven't made any soft toys for over a year, and I soon remembered what to do!!! I thought that the little seal was a perfect size for a baby, and I do hope she likes it.

I made a little shawl or cape for it - so it keeps warm!!! - I feel it should be enough.

I must admit I've not felt like doing anything lately - the cold weather doesn't make me feel I want to do anything - I'm trying so hard not to use the fires yet, it'll be so expensive when I do. With all the hoo-hah going on in our Government - now a third Prime Minister and a third or fourth Chancellor - they each say things, then change their mind. I really dread what they come up with - especially us poor pensioners on a fixed rate and those others on benefits with children. It's strange how when the rich complain when their money is cut, that the Government reacts to pacify them.

Enough about that - no need to get maudlin. I hope you all have a great weekend to come.

Thats a cutie baby seal! Though I wonder. Not to be a party pooper but mightn't the eyes be something Merryn could bite off in a few months snd possibly choke on? I guess it depends on how you attached them

Thanks Gracie - the eyes are very strongly attached. There's a stopper behind the eye, after it's been pushed through the material, that ensures it doesn't move, and certainly not come out. I've always ensured that any eyes or noses are safety guided. Have a great weekend

Lovely, just lovely, Jenny.
Both the seal and the sentiment behind the project.

Merci beaucoup Pat. Ce n'est pas très grand, mais c'est juste un signe de ma reconnaissance que ses grands-parents font pour moi. Passe un bon weekend

Oh that's adorable Jenny, and I love the shawl, such a great colour. I'm sure it will be well loved.

Oh I know what you mean about them changing their minds! It's annoying to say the least and we, the public, don't know if we're coming or going due to u-turns and too many changes. They should just have a GE and get it over with!

I'm avoiding having the heating on for as long as possible and just wearing lots of layers. We have a good stock of candles now, and some torches for when/if we have major power cuts.

Thanks Fran. I gave the seal to Ann for her to give it to little Merryn when she sees her. She was so grateful, and I told her that it was nothing compared to the help she gives me, apart from the Sunday lunch! She wouldn't accept that she was doing anything for me!!!

Well so far I haven't had the heating on, although thermal vests as well as a cardigan over my jumper is the decision of the day!!! Hopefully I'll go until November without the heating on!! I will admit though - I do put the electric blanket on as I get into bed, and switch it off when I stop reading (about 30 mins) and then I'm nice and cosy for a good sleep. I have some gas bottles for my camping lights (not been camping though!!), so I'll use them if necessary.
