What I do remember also, is in and around 1960 the whole family went on holiday to Spain. My dad drove us in our car all the way down through France and it took us three days to reach our destination. I remember when we were staying at a B&B somewhere in the Loire Valley, France, that the owner and his family kept staring at us. Eventually they came over and asked Mum if she was Queen Elizabeth!!!!! They thought she was holidaying but I know my Dad didn't look anything like Prince Phillip, and I didn't look like Prince Charles neither!!!! Maybe they thought she was having an affair!!
Mum did resemble the Queen for a while, I admit, and watching Queen Elizabeth age gracefully, was like watching my mum.
This is what she looked like at that time of the confusion - I suppose she did look a bit like the Queen...
Hearing the sad news tonight - it just made me think of my mum, and it did make Mandi very sad, she said it was as if she'd lost my mum all over again. This is the picture of her when she was about 76 - she was very active but not long after this picture was taken she had the massive stroke and she died when she was 84.
It's very sad news about Queen Elizabeth, but hopefully her son - King Charles III will be as loved as she was, he's got big shoes to walk in.
Rest in peace ma'am. Thank you for all you have done for us.

I was out and my Amanda texted me so I was at a disadvantage. I had tears and still get a bit choked up. I Really thought she was something else. I doubt Charles will be quite up to her. She is from a bygone era. One we will never see again. She was so very reserved and lovely. Never getting political. Charles has done so already. Hopefully he knows better at the ripe age of 73.

Charles gave his first talk to the nation this evening and he was brilliant - he spoke so calmly and so tenderly. I'm thinking he will be a great King. The entire country is in mourning until after the funeral, so it's about another 10 days.

Soberly considered, I cannot care about that, my life will hardly change by her death. But even that is only a small part of the truth. Anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that I have no access to national symbols and to national glorification. Nevertheless, I have a good feeling in me when I think of the United Kingdom - even if I can only shake my head at some prime ministers - and that is also due to Elizabeth II.
Yesterday, after long deliberations, I ordered the Union Jack, in the size 150 x 250 cm. In honor of Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other realms and territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith I will fly the flag at half mast all day on Monday. And for you, dear Jenny, I will post a photo of it.
