He will be laid to rest on Monday in Paris, according to a statement released by the Turkish Literature Foundation.

Garaudy was born in Marseilles on July 17, 1913. He was awarded a doctorate degree in literature by Sorbonne University in 1952 and another doctorate in science in 1954 by the Soviet Union Academy of Sciences.

Garaudy was chief of the Marxism Investigation and Research Center and a deputy in French Parliament and deputy speaker of the French Assembly. He was also one of the most senior members of the French Communist Party before he converted to Islam in 1982.

In 1986, he published “The Founding Myths of Modern Israel,” but it was banned by a French court as a result of pressure from the Israeli lobby in France because it included a denial of the Holocaust. Nearly 30 books by the French thinker have been translated into Turkish.
