I have been slowly getting back to participating on ipernity again, and it was such a pleasure to learn that Explore is finally up and running! I don't know about you, but this was an important tool for me to use to meet new people and as another way to keep up with old friends! I didn't realize just how much I would miss it until it was gone!
I know some people look at Explore as litttle more than a "popularity contest", but that is not the real purpose of this feature. It was intended as a tool to "explore" a sampling of the wonderful photographers in the community and to meet new people with shared interests. I couldn't do that as efficiently through the news page or group sites alone. I hope everyone will use Explore to become better acquainted with the community at large, and just have fun again! I also hope that it will attract new people to visit the site and perhaps join us in fun, too. :-)

Since being a part of ipernity, Explore played a role in judging the success of my photography. I came here from Flickr and any picture that was Explored there was quite the badge of success to me, and I felt the same about ipernity's Explore. It was a fun challenge as well, and I always had hopes that my latest picture might make the first few pages of Explore. However, I sometimes felt that the algorithms were flawed. Some people and/or certain images would linger at the top for weeks without budging, and some pictures really and truly lacked the quality that should be paraded as something special. (In fact, sometimes a person's "Taking a Break" message would make Explore, or another similar "non-image" that seemed like adding insult to injury. How many times I'd seen a gorgeous picture that didn't see the light of day on Explore, and yet, a "Time Out" picture would grace those same coveted pages.)
Anyway, thanks again. A fine post and exactly what I'd been looking for!
