When using such old fashioned regular pot, there were several tricks to get less grounds in the cup. One was to slam the pot against table before pouring the coffee, to make most of the grounds sink to the bottom of the pot. Another trick was to pour little cold water on top, which was supposed to cause the same. And then it is almost a tradition to pour little coffee into drain to clear the spout.
So, the major difference compered to French press is the filtering of coffee grounds with the press:
Those are some funny tricks. I seem to remember the cold water one. My coffee is so much better. Now I'm excited to try out some different coffee blends. Thanks for the links. :)
Well, I do agree that the French press or coffeepot methods are somewhat the best, if one appreciate the flavor of "fat coffee" ;-)
The rich taste of coffee oils are then not filtered away at all, and surely the coffee is not spoiled by any taste of paper either. And as the second video shows, making coffee with French press is almost a zen moment.
