Cycling from Bordeaux Vineyards to the Atlantic Coast /Bordeaux
A separate bell tower, the Tour Pey-Berland, stands next to the cathedral,
Similar to an Italian campanile. At its top is the highest vantage point of the city.
For lack of bells, the tower was converted and divided into apartments. In 1667 a storm damaged the tower.
The church bought the tower back in 1851, it was placed under monumental protection in 1848. Now finally three small and one large bell were installed.
In 1863 the 50 meter high tower was raised by the tower helmet with the Marienstatue Notre-Dame d'Aquitaine (Aquitaine). The biggest bell weighs eight tons, it hangs since 1869 in the tower and has the nickname "Ferdinand-André". The tower in Bordeaux is surpassed in height by the tower of Saint-Michel (114 m), which also stands alone.
