Pied Wagtail (adult)

Motacilla alba: Seen in County Kerry, Ireland last Autumn but I do see these often by our local big rivers and small streams over here on the British mainland too. A rather nice bird to watch and listen to too, with their bobbing tails and often seen with a fly or small fish in its beak.

Thanks for this Roland. I see that you are not averse to taking the odd wild bird portrait yourself :)

We usually get a couple of pied wagtails in the garden sometime during the year Herb. I love to watch them and your picture caught my eye first thing this morning! Superb shot.
Cheers, Rosa.

Herb Riddle replied to Rosalyn Hilborne:

Nice that you too enjoy seeing such wonderful birds as these Rosa. Although we have many birds visit our garden I have never seen a wagtail here. Glad you liked it.

Nice catch Herb , its not easy to get so close to wagtails like this- well done. I've noticed here in Wigan a lot more grey ones than pied recently, until now its always been the other way about, so its nice to see a Pied wagtail!

Herb Riddle replied to Richard Nuttall:

Hi Richard. I don't think that I have knowingly ever seen a grey wagtail before. I shall have to watch out for them now I have looked up what they look like. These pied wagtails are certainly numerous here in Lancashire especially on and near the River Ribble. Glad you liked it.

Great shot Herb. These never seem to to stay still for long enough for me to get a decent shot. Neil.
