Tomba nella necropoli di Monterozzi

La Necropoli Etrusca

VII a.C.

The Etruscan Necropolis

VII BC

The Necropolis is situated on a plateau, called Monterozzi because of the presence of tumuli in the form of small earth mounds, which runs parallel to the Tyrrhenian coast for a length of six kilometres and a width of about three kilometres.
At present, 22 tombs can be visited: the Tomb of the Jugglers, the Tomb of the Warrior, the Tomb of Cristofani, the Tomb of the Hunting Pavilion, the Tomb of the Lotus Flower, the Tomb of the Lionesses, the Tomb of the Pallotine, the Tomb of the Chick, the Tomb of Hunting and Fishing, the Tomb of the Caronti, the Tomb of the Two Roofs, the Tomb of the Gorgoneion, the Tomb of Cardarelli, the Tomb of Moretti, the Tomb of the Flogging, the Tomb of Fiorellini, the Tomb of the Blue Demons, the Tomb of Bettini, the Tomb of the Stag Hunt, the Tomb of Bartoccini, the Tomb of the Leopards and the Tomb of the Bacchae.

Tarquinia alone therefore offers us an underground art gallery dating from the Orientalizing Age (late 7th century BC) to the end of the Roman Republican Age (mid-1st century BC), which reveals how this city had a flourishing and uninterrupted painting tradition. This enormous heritage, not only artistic but also historical, represents a glimpse into the daily life of the Etruscans and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004.
