Sad news from Turkey....
Mandi rang me this afternoon very upset - one of the kittens, the white with black markings, had just died. Apparently the little kitty had cried a lot during the night, and both Mandi and Dogan had tried to comfort it. It wouldn't feed and Pasha was washing it and trying to comfort it, but for some reason it just wouldn't latch on to feed.

This afternoon, despite it being in amongst the other two kittens and Pasha cuddling it, it was very cold, so Mandi held it in her hands and tried to rub it gently to warm it up, then it died in her hands. Something like this has never happened to her before.

I know it's nature -but sometimes nature can be very cruel. So now Pasha has only got the two grey/white ones and they seem to be very strong, feeding and sleeping. Pasha is being a very good mum - she went out for 10 minutes this morning and again another 10 minutes this afternoon - apart from those times, she's with those kitties washing and feeding them.

So let's hope these two little ones survive and thrive. Sorry to be the bearer of sad news, but I thought it best I tell you all - I'd shared my delight with their birth, so I felt that I should let you know what had happened.

So do I Fran - she was so very upset - of course it's the first time she's had a female cat of her own, all her other cats were all boys, so having a nursing cat is a first time for her. I know it's nature, but it doesn't stop her fretting. That's what I love about her - her sensitive nature.

Yes I know John, but to Mandi it was awful. It's the first time this has happened to her and so she took it to heart. I think it was because she helped it being born and 36 hours later she was holding it when it died.

Very true Jenny, nobodylikes an animal or bird to die in their hands but we must remember that if none died it would very quickly be a case of 'Standing room only'

Jenny McIntyre replied to raingirl:

Yes it was - Mandi was holding it a long time, to keep it warm but there was obviously something wrong with the kitten like its sibling, and so it died.

Quite true John, but this was the first time Mandi had had one of her cats be a mother. She'd always had male cats, so she felt responsible for those kittens.
