Dead in the Woods
Monday … I headed out to Ohio to service some water-table loggers and I took the camera along just in case I ran across something new. We finally got to the site after a very long drive and I noticed a honey locust tree with a large amount of burled growth on the branches. I pulled out the camera and went to set the exposure … and I found the camera battery was completely dead! I normally carry a spare … though, I rarely need one, but the spare was in the charger at home since I’d just put this battery in on Friday. I normally shoot for a month, or more, on a charge. Live and learn I guess! We’ll see if the both recharged batteries hold a charge now. I guess, outside of the burled branches, it was good I didn’t see anything I really wanted to photograph!

What a pain when that happens! One time, I went to Longwood Gardens for the express purpose of taking many photographs. I took 2 pictures and then the battery went dead. Of course I didn't bring a spare, so I wasted a trip. Lucky for me I have a season pass and live only 30 minutes away. Now I never leave home without a spare battery when I'm out and about with the camera, lol!

Oh ... I rarely leave without a spare ... unless I'm just going for a walk around the neighborhood. I suspect I'm going to find my spare battery is bad, but we'll see in a few days if it holds its charge. It's sure not like the old days when you could make a run to the drug store and pick up some batteries! :-)

It seems to be a lesson most of us learn the hard way. I've been there too Norm. Sorry it happened to such a nice guy.

(What's a "Diana?")

Indycaver (Norm) replied to Karen's Place:

A Diana is a plastic 120 film camera. It's often used for "artsy" photos due to the random light leaks in the plastic camera. It's a cheap way to get into a medium format camera.

Just take 5 or 6 spare cameras along like I do. I figure, one of 'em is bound to work!

I usually don't take along anymore cameras than I can carry. I don't like leaving them in the truck.

I got a little Sony point and shoot that I always stick in my pocket for emergencies. Sometimes, it too has come in handy!

I'm surprised I didn't have a photo of it posted. I loaded film into it and I think I packed it away before I got a chance to shoot it.

I've got my cell phone in a pinch. I use to carry a little Nikon cool pix until I got the phone.
