My internet provider and I are at odds right now and I'm not sure when I'll have regular service at home again. I'm currently shopping for a new provider.

Well ... my service is back on after calling in and chewing on some guy for 30 minutes. AT&T has been on a full frontal attack to switch me over to U-verse and has sent out 5 sales people over the past year ... all of which I threw off the property post haste with the exception of the cute brunette which I let stay for five minutes! Basically ... they shut off my service to force me to call in and listen to another U-verse sales pitch. The fella didn't get to say much though with me dishing out my anti-U-verse sales pitch and I think he turned me back on just to end the phone call!

Verizon sucks as well. I have been having problems so the salesperson told me that Verizon was installing FIOS and no longer would support the infrastructure of DSL. After I agreed to switch, they told me that FIOS was not available and then continued to provide intermittent service on the DSL line. GRRRR!

Yes ... U-verse wasn't available everywhere in the neighborhood until recently and some neighbors loved it ... if they were close to the junction box and hated it if they were on the end of the line. I'm hoping something better will come along before the DSL is discontinued.

Do you live in a bigger area, Norm? I live in such a tiny area, I keep getting shuffled off to another provider. I started with AT&T and then they sold off my area to Verizon. Verizon kept promising to update the old lines and offer high-speed internet. After about 5 years, it didn't happen and they sold me off to a little phone company that I can't even remember their name. So, I switched to Alltel so that maybe I could get some stability. So, what do they do? After about a year and a half, they sell my area back off to AT&T or get bought out by them or something like that, but, I'm back with AT&T. Isn't this where I started?

I'm in a bigger area and generally that means a little faster net, but provider choices are not much different than the rural areas here.
