I have long known Manuel De DIEGO's simple, profound, and synthetic poetry. A poet without a shadow of models, he follows his path with total freedom of expression, sometimes the haiku, the epigram and the sonnet seem conditioning him, but they are mere exercises of his poetic mastery. It's interesting to sprinkle his Spanish work with some poems directly written in English.

His themes are the life, love, proudly assumed Hispanicity, the mystery of the soul, alias, the motto of this admirable book, "Summer of Soul", thus defined, "perennial Summer / hidden between nothings... / footprint sunk / in blue crevices / which people call life...". This admirable synthesis explains and portrays the poet and friend Manuel De DIEGO, who surprised me with the dedication of a poem, which I will refer here later.
Já há muito conheço a poesia simples, profunda e sintética de Manuel De DIEGO. Poeta sem sombra de modelos, segue o seu próprio caminho com total liberdade de expessão, por vezes o haiku, o epigrama e o soneto parecem condicioná-lo, mas são meros exercícios da sua poética mestria. É interessante que polvilhe a sua obra em castelhano, com alguns poemas directamente escritos em inglês.

Os seus temas são a vida, o amor, a hispanidade assumida com orgulho, o mistério da alma, aliás, o mote deste admirável livro, "Verão da Alma...", assim definida, "perene verão / escondido entre nadas... / pegada afundada / em fendas azuis / a que chamam vida...". Esta admirável síntese explica e retracta o poeta e amigo Manuel De DIEGO, que me surpreendeu com a dedicação de um poema, ao qual aqui me referirei mais tarde.
