Scurvy Dogs
This past week, I was held 'prisoner' in the Big Ship for an extra 6 hours. Well, I did say I wanted more hours lol. A pirate has surrendered their Sunday shift, and a scurvy dog has managed to jump ship due to not enough hours on his contract. Shame really, as he was a good pirate to have around. Short term, this has led to more overtime, and I already have 3 hours extra planned for this coming weekend.

The Big Ship was open to the public and many scurvy dogs attended with their squealing kids in tow. A small prod with the cutlass put an end to some of that, and a long walk off a short plank sorted out the more troublesome tearaways.

Something made me laugh to myself: In the freezer cabinets is a small shelf/step which some stand on to reach the highest shelf. I had hauled myself into the freezer cabinet and was standing on this 'shelf' when one of the younger colleagues came rushing up and asked if he could reach anything for me. The Deckhand joked that maybe he thought I was trying to off myself by freezing lol. It was sweet of the colleague, though it did make me laugh.

Sunday was quieter for a change, and I guess the wind and rain kept many away. Once I’d been released from my shackles, I managed to secure some provisions for the Deckhand and myself in a moderately sane environment.

Earlier in the week, on my day off, I’d managed to finally see the physiotherapist. She was very nice. We discussed the work I do on the Big Ship, and for how many hours. She got me to do some ‘exercises’ so that she could see the range of movement that I have. She stated that my range of movement was pretty good considering what she’d seen on my x-rays, and further stated that my job, although intense and physical, is probably good in that it keeps me active and employs a good range of motion. I don’t need to do any further exercises. I also don’t need to see her again until/if my condition worsens. So, good news; not only do the head pirates pay me, but it’s also good for me lol.

Not much planned for my 2 days off except some light housework. Just a shame about the weather! We were lucky in that we didn’t have the forecast thunder and heavy rain, though we had, and still have, copious amounts of light rain. At least I won’t have to water the potted plants on the deck anytime soon.

On my days off, we like to share an espresso pot. Today, the Deckhand got out a new bag of coffee, only to find that I’d bought beans and not powder D’oh! Luckily, I have food processor, very old, that came with an attachment that grinds beans. Man, it was noisy! Later, I’ll grind the rest of the beans so that next time we won’t have to put up with the noise at an early hour.

Take care out there if you have thunder and/or heavy rain. Have a good week.

I can hear in your writing that you are feeling so much happier. It's ages since you wrote about the "big ship" or the "Deckhand! so that's great. It's also good news that the amount of work you are doing, is keeping you fit and mobile. You also get paid for this exercise too, which is a bonus.

These last 4 days - which was to celebrate 70 years of her majesty's reign, was a bit of a washout as far as I was concerned. I didn't go anywhere nor see anyone. I do understand that there was a large street party here in Bideford and lots of celebrations, but I couldn't go as I can't leave the house, still it was nice seeing how some people celebrated this 4 day weekend, which I saw on the TV.

Carry on getting better and we'll keep hoping for warmer weather.

Thanks Jenny. I was a tad anxious about my appointment though it went well, as stated. Yes, getting paid to exercise lol, what's not to like.

I worked all through it. I had no interest in any of it and was happy to work so others could have the time off. I'll be happy too come pay day, as we're going to be paid extra for it. Shame the weather wasn't better for people.

Hoping it warms up soon. I'm still wearing a 'vest' under my blouse, and still using a hot water bottle. I can't believe how cool it is still.

Im glad your shoulder is healing well. I wonder what the physio would have had to say had you been able to get the xrays and appointment sooner. Its basically healed on its own after all this time. Glad it did good instead of harm. Had it been something that caused more problems the damage could have been more permanent.

Great for the overtime. I guess by now you’re used to the labor.

Fresh ground beans are great but noise first thing isn’t.

Thanks Gracie. I doubt it will ever heal. I don't think osteoarthritis and bone spurs heal though being active is a big help and will hopefully slow the process at least. More recently, my wrist hurts more than my shoulder and she did recommend a wrist support that contains a metal rod. Quite pricey! I'll leave that for now as I'm coping.

Yes, they were noisy lol.
