In front is the (ice) Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto (1886. Darling & Curry). It was originally a bank. The building on the left is the Canada Trust Tower (1990, Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill; Santiago Calatrava; Bregman + Hamann).

A great mix of the old and the not so old buildings John, captured from an interesting perspective.

I wonder what the original architects of the bank would think about its current use?

John FitzGerald replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks, Keith. Hockey was very new when this building opened. The first indoor game in Toronto wasn't played till two years later, and I believe it was played under field hockey rules (with extra added violence, it seems). I think Darling and Curry would be astonished. Especially as the hall now includes women players -- at the 1886 game many women spectators were appalled by the violence and left.

This answered question I had about the building! Thanks. (I'm still one of those women - but that's just me.)

John FitzGerald replied to raingirl:

I spent much of my working life evaluating programs for people with brain injuries, Laura, so I'm not happy with the violence, either, especially all the crosschecking to the head. They have cut down on that but, like Canadian and American football, the game still seems designed to create head trauma.
