Ullswater shore tree

As seen in colour at. www.ipernity.com/doc/vitalsparks/53307728
This is a jpg from scanned negative by the Processing Lab. I have only cropped a small amount of distracting tree on the left.

VERY Happy with this
and the Picture in Picture closeup of the old tree - an unedited scan

These trees always look interesting Colin. However I can see from the number of comments on here that a mono simply does not have the audience appeal of a colour rendition, unless it is absolutely superb. That being said - I like it! I used to do all my B&W work with HP4 but I don't know this HP4+, I presume a newer version. I don't suppose you developed it yourself as we used to do in the day. --- Well done.

Colin Ashcroft replied to Herb Riddle:

Thanks for your interest. I will try again with HP4Plus it is an unusual ISO 125. I did send it to a lab to be developed and scanned. a few years ago I had a scanner that worked quite well but seems to be faulty I assume I did something wrong when I stored it. I think I will try Gloss Prints next time.

I am not sure if I am bothered by the size of any audience.
I often have periods when i wonder why I share any photographs.

It all started when I was sharing Peak District walks illustrated with my photographs and then some wildlife walks. I created my own website and had a group of colleagues at work who were interested. After that on Flickr there was a time around 10-15 years when the photo sharing was with a group of a dozen or so people I actually knew and I now know this had a greater value than I really understood at the time. Over time people lost interest and now there are only a couple I notice still sharing photos.
So why do I share photos on Ipernity, well number one is supporting the idea of an independent user run club that seems close to my original website idea.

Excuse me for this long reply, perhaps I am talking myself rather than just answering your thought provoking comment.

Herb Riddle replied to Colin Ashcroft:

Thanks for this reply and your thoughts about photo sharing echo my own. I must admit to always having a little thrill if my photos were seen and appreciated by a lot of people, a bit of vanity I presume. Like you I had (and still have) a Flickr page which at one point had many views but it all dwindled with the commercialism. I have the same feelings as you re Ipernity. I also belonged to a real photographic group (Oldham Camera Club) many years back where I cut my teeth on photography. (I was the chairman and competitions sec for a time.) Now on here I have just a few close and loyal followers to my photos but a shadow of the old days. Ah well.

Keep good. Herb

Colin Ashcroft replied to Herb Riddle:

Yes, my camera club days were also mostly positive but I was always lacking effort (and perhaps interest) in the competitions. Many of the people were obsessed with their cameras but I was unsure how many photographs they took. The best part was actually meeting other people who were birdwatchers ( rather than trying to photograph birds) and sharing observations and locations. Oh Well! that’s enough about the old days :-) Thanks Herb
