The view of the valley bottom

The steep sided valleys in the UK Peak District National park are call Cloughs

This is a digital image created in Adobe Lightroom, it may use AI for certain functions
but this is my photograph.

I am on a steep learning curve about the use of AI in photography and the Use of AI to generate an image from scratch.

The use of AI here on Ipernity is currently being discussed in this Ipernity Group

I like the contrasting light and shadows here Colin........and the dead tree in particular catches my eye, and the earthy colours.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who employs any sort of software to process their photos, particularly those of us who shoot in RAW format, use AI in one form or another, even if we don't realise it. Of course, that's a long way from making complete images or replacing parts of the image (such as the sky).

I don't really have a problem with people making art using AI to generate an image providing it's labelled as such. I do have a problem with the AI companies using other peoples work without permission (or payment).

Colin Ashcroft replied to Keith Burton:

Glad you like the photo. I am heading towards the same sort of conclusions about AI. I must admit to letting it all pass by me until very recently.

Keith Burton replied to Colin Ashcroft:

I'd probably get much more worked up over it, if I was a professional photographer or artist and my livelihood or reputation was affected.

I don't see it as being a problem on IP personally, even if it's not labelled as AI, you can usually tell..........and to be honest, some of it's quite good.

AI is here to stay, like it or not ..!!

Hmmm, the jury is still out for me as regarding AI image creation into our Ipernity photo club at all. As I know these Derbyshire hills around Glossup and also your standard photo capturing practices I readily accepted this as a true capture done by your camera or phone. I wonder which part is -AI - the sheep or the tree, maybe even the river ? As Keith says, thanks at least for informing us of the true nature of this picture.

Keep well. Herb

Colin Ashcroft replied to Herb Riddle:

Yes Herb I’m not sure about what elements of editing in Adobe Lightroom are AI probably none on this photo but it clearly states that AI (of some form) is used when editing the sky or removing a blemish or dirt on my sensor for example.

I have to admit I am more excited about going out with colour film in my Pentax MX if it continues to snow for while !

Herb Riddle replied to Colin Ashcroft:

Hi again Colin. Apologies in order from me then as I interpreted your description as to additional elements possibly added here. Yes the use of our modern editing programs must alter the photos somewhat and as you say the programs do mention AI in the use of that but as I use such programs too maybe I should not shout too much!

Carry on Sir! :)
