Pieces of bread
There is great amusement in our house about the different names used across the UK for almost the same shapes and size of bread. Roll, Cob, Bap, Bun. Muffin, Barm and Teacake to name a few in approximate order of popularity. Teacake is baffling to us as it should have spiced fruit in so we have resorted to plain Teacake at times. Bafflingly a Bun is a small sponge cake rather than bread in some areas. Muffin is used in USA for a similar small cake. We live in the middle of England and are often on the line on the weather map so we are never quite sure if it will be sunny or cloudy, raining or dry, windy or calm. It’s the same for us about bread drive 10 minutes in any direction and our piece of bread very easily be a Muffin, Teacake or a bap 10 minutes more to the west it will be a barm.
All a bit barmy ( crazy in the dialect elsewhere)
