I find that the stuff that turns up that you don't even remember is sometimes the best. I found a bit of writing I'd done on an old site and realised, maybe for the first time, that it was good.

Very true. Often it's old work first deemed somehow crap and/or unfit and then completely forgotten about. This had a different fate, I think it was just immediately stashed away because of some practical reason. I found it behind some paintings leaned against the wall.
