Flying into the "Lost World"

Shot from a small bush plane over southeastern Venezuela near the Brazil and Guyana borders. February, 1993

(Please "View on Black" or in larger sizes for best effect)

Canaima National Park is unique, combining the Gran Sabana (grasslands) with canopied jungle and huge tabletop mountains (tepuis). These mountains are believed to be the oldest rock formations on this planet and it is said that the most UFO sightings in the world have been recorded in this region.

Tepuis are hundreds of millions of years old. Tepuis have flat, slopping tops that are the sites of unique plant life. Scientists have called tepuis "islands in time" or "ecological islands" because of their unique ecosystems.

As they all are, Dan, I'm sorry to say. Why we need so MANY people in the world absolutely baffles me!
