The Girl Who Kept Summer - 37
In many ways - it’s been an amazing summer - thinks the young woman. The weekend has just started - but a lovely Saturday morning - she enjoys the morning light - it’s nice to sit in the sun’s rays and let her thoughts drift out to the horizon. She thinks about all the wonderful moments over the summer - the endless summer evenings and the many days with a clear blue sky and amazing sunshine - all day long. Where she lives - it’s hard to say anything negative about summer 2026. Sure - there were some heatwaves - but they were manageable. Worse was it in other parts of Europe - and all the forest fires. She shivers a little - and hurries to think about all the good memories from summer 2026. There’s talk of a strong El Niño - she wonders how it will affect the weather in Europe this winter?
Summer 2026, a Reverie
The light spills gold on quiet sheets,
A Saturday hums with sunlit heat.
The world outside is bright, complete—
Yet here, she lingers, soft, discrete.
The sky, a canvas, bold and blue,
Holds memories of days she knew:
Endless evenings, warm and clear,
A summer’s grace, so bright, so near.
But whispers drift of fires far,
Of El Niño’s distant scar.
She shivers once, then lets it go—
The sun still warms. The light still glows.
Three Haikus
1.
Morning light spills in—
thoughts drift like the summer breeze,
warm and without end.
2.
Blue sky, endless days—
heatwaves fade like distant smoke,
summer stays, always.
3.
El Niño’s whisper—
will winter steal this golden light?
Not today. Not here.
